Iraqi oil beckons Indian firms
The Iraqi government is holding talks with India's largest state-run and private-sector oil firms and Algeria's Sonatrach over the joint development of a field in Iraq. Looking to secure suppliers for its surging energy demand, India's Oil and Natural Gas Corp. and rival Reliance Industries are in discussions to develop the Tuba oilfield in southern Iraq jointly. "The new Iraqi Parliament, with the backing of the US, is likely to enact an oil law that allows renegotiation of oil contracts with foreign investors. We are trying to get back the Tuba oilfield," an ONGC official was cited as saying in the Press Trust of India.
